ROUGAROU by JUDITH McDOWELL

Hot and balmy Louisiana nights in a dark and dangerous swamp is the setting for JUDITH McDOWELL’s novel, ROUGAROU. People in Saint Anthony’s Parish, Louisiana know how to deal with the lethal and slithering creatures that call the swamps home. What they can’t deal with, however, is the Voo-Doo magic that brings forth an extremely deadly creature with a thirst for human blood. When the body count starts to rise in Saint Anthony’s Parish, each one mutilated to the point of being almost unrecognizable, Detective Donovan Hays and his close friend and ex-partner, Jack Olivier’, get a crash course in what it’s like to live in a horror movie. As they race against the clock to save their loved ones and their town, the questions weighing on their minds are; what sort of creature are they up against and can they find it before it’s too late? This was a pulse pounding read that kept me scared silly and on the edge of my seat the entire time. It has been newly edited, (by yours truly! ), and re-...

CELEBRATING DANIELLE D. SMITH

Everyone who knows me, even a little, knows that I absolutely LOVE editing and reviewing books. In the process of doing both, I get to know the authors and they become "my" authors and my my friends. Every accomplishment makes me proud to know them. Every five star review, every special interview or recognition makes me smile. The point to all this is; I love the authors I work with. A while back, I did a review for Danielle D. Smith , the author of COYOTE NIGHT . She is a graphic artist, an author, and now, she is designing a line of handbags. These handbags feature Skriker and Rose, the two main characters in COYOTE NIGHT. I am so proud for her and want to celebrate her success by posting a link back to her review and also a link so that everyone can go and see her handbags. Please let her know that you are proud of her too. Click on her name to visit her website and leave her a message. You can also leave comments on the review post, which is here . NIGHT JOURNEY by GOLDIE BROWNING REVIEW AND GIVEAWAY.

Image
Today is an odd Saturday as I have, not one, but two guest posts and giveaways. This review is for NIGHT JOURNEY by GOLDIE BROWNING . This was an awesome read that actually made me stop and wonder about past lives. You know when you get that feeling that you have done something before or been in a particular place before? NIGHT JOURNEY is packed with these types of remembrances. The hotel in the book is a real place and the historical aspects of this novel are true and dead on. Goldie writes in such a way that you feel as if you are right there with the characters and in the places described. This was a truly enjoyable read that I would have to put in a class of its own. It has supernatural elements, mystery and suspense, romance...it has a little of everything. There is no way you can go wrong with this one. There is also a giveaway for two e-book copies of NIGHT JOURNEY and one lucky winner will get a paperback copy, (as long as you live within the U.S.). Below is the guest post...

HEADS UP FOR SOME NEW REVIEWS FOR 7/16/2011

I will have several reviews posted tomorrow, July 16, 2011. Among these awesome books will be 7G:SEVENTH GENERATION by DEBBIE KUMP. This is a must read book, especially since we as a nation depend almost entirely on technology. It's actually really creepy!  I will also have a review for THE HOUSE ON MAYBERRY ROAD by TROY McCOMBS. This one is scary beyond belief and has all sorts of ghosts and monsters, a haunted house, and, yes, even a love story thrown in, although that isn't the main point of the story it does help to push it along. Ewetopia A Land Far from Normal. Can be either a bedtime story for the kids or a light hearted read for a grown up. There will several more also, just not sure which ones! :)

SOMEBODY PUHLEASE HELP A GIRL OUT!

I have decided that I would like to learn a little more about the marketing side of the book business. Since I know about zilch as of right this minute, I guess that means I have a lot to learn. I think I can pretty much handle it on Facebook and that's it. I need to know things like; What exactly is a press release and how is it done? What do the authors like to see when their book is being marketed and/or promoted? What college classes would one take to get some sort of background in marketing? Would one really even have to take college courses or could they just pick up the information, learn the ropes and then just go with it? I know I have a bunch of Facebook friends who are also authors. I hope I can get some advice and direction from them or from anyone with a background in marketing who would just like to help a girl out. Anyone who has knowledge of marketing books, please leave a comment or feel free to contact me via the email address on my 'contact me' page. Tha...

BAD PIRATES (AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY)!

So, as most of my followers know, I got a job as editor for World Castle Publishing about a month or so ago. (God Bless Karen's sweet heart!) As an editor, I have had the privilege to get to know some wonderfully awesome, warm, and friendly people. I talk with most of them either by phone or email a couple of times a week and have come to think of them as friends. I have also learned, through this job, that the words in the book that you buy at the bookstore or on-line don't just magically fall onto the pages ready to read. From what I've seen, writing a book and polishing it for publication is a lot like having a baby. It starts as a thought, grows into an idea, and then it is slowly shaped and molded into the finished work by its creator. It is, simply put, someone's work of art. This work of art is then fine-tuned by creator, publisher, and editor so that it can be sent into the world for others to enjoy.  I have loved books for as long as I can remember. When I rea...

GRAVE IS THE DAY by MICHAEL DRAKICH

4****STAR Book: Grave Is The Day Author: Michael Drakich Publisher: Knight Romance Publishing Genre: Science Fiction Rating: Mature This is a tale of aliens, spaceships, and the human reaction to the strange and unknown. Mr. Drakich has tightly woven fascination, fear, and curiosity into this story. I felt compassion for the aliens who had the misfortune of being detained by the government and at the same time, admired the way individuals were portrayed. From sympathetic and compassionate, to disgustingly and shamefully cruel, you will love some of the characters in this story immediately and love to hate others. This is only the first paragraph of my review for this book. SALEM MOON by SCARLET BLACK

Scarlet Black is a pen name. The author’s ‘real’ name is Deb. Deb is an amazingly talented author who writes in the Psychological Thriller, Horror, and Paranormal Romance and Dark Urban Fantasy genres. She has become one of my very favorite authors. Her books are well written with tight plots, lively characters and action and suspense that will have you jumping out of your chair and shouting at the hero or heroine! I have to warn you, though, before you pick up SALEM MOON or any of her other books, you should clear your calendar. Once you start reading, you will not stop until you have read the very last word. Scarlet has a website which you can find here . This site has all the latest information on her release dates and next book. Now, on to the review of SALEM MOON ; ************* This story takes place in Salem, Massachusetts both in the 1600’s during the Salem Witch Trials and also in present day Salem. Gabriel Blackstone is a young man in Salem during the witch trial hysteria. ...

EVOLUTION OF THE FALLEN by MJ GOODNOW

Image
As most of my followers know, my preferred genre is Paranormal and Paranormal Romance. As a result, most of my reviews aren't what one would consider to be "serious". Well, today, this book review is going to be a lot more on the "serious" side. I wonder how many people have or know someone who has a mental illness? When my dad was in his 30's, he was diagnosed with a mental illness called Paranoid Schizophrenia. I am not sure if it is still called by that name now, but it was then. Evolution of the Fallen is about four teens who, after spending some time in a psychiatric facility, go and live at a half way house. Each one has a traumatic event or several traumatic events in their life that brought them to this point. They are all on medicines that are supposed to help them manage their illness on a daily basis. Some of these meds are so mind numbing that, even if they control the disease, they cause the person to become a sort of medicated zombie, if you w...

Giving Up Is Not An Option

Most of my family and friends know that I have a passion for books. Paper backs, hardcover, electronic; it doesn't really matter to me. It can be fiction, nonfiction, reference books, or, depending on the person, a biography. I am not picky as long as I can read it. The point of me telling you this is that I have always wanted to make a career out of something that would keep me surrounded by my first true love...BOOKS! I also needed it to be something I could do from where ever I happened to be at the time. Well, after months of looking for it, I found just such a job! I say "months", but it was closer to a year. Have you ever had a period of time in your life when it just seemed like everything was working out the way it needed to without much pushing or shoving from you? I seem to be in the middle of one of those times. Okay, so now that I have grabbed your curiosity, let me tell you what my new job is, (drum-roll, please), I am officially an editor for a publishi...

The Locker Room by Amy Lane

5 ****STAR            Book- Locker Room            Author- Amy Lane            Publisher-Dreamspinner Press           Genre- Romance           Rating Mature-Alternative Lifestyle Where do I even begin to review this amazing story? So here is the thing….I was privy to this story during its inception….I was a Beta reader for Amy Lane, receiving Locker Room one chapter at a time… Being able to absorb this story was wonderful. Xander Karcek was made for greatness….He feels he would not have achieved this, if it wasn’t for his Chris, Christian Edwards. So lets start at the beginning. At fourteen, and standing at 6 foot one, Xander wandered in the fading light, holding a basketball, dreading to go home. Home was where his crack-head mot...
